An inter-school camp named ‘Kanadam’ was organized by the Study Centre in association with Effective Teacher (an educational organization based in kottayam), on 25th and 26th May 2011 in Amos Centre, Kottayam. The camp was focused on science education. Since 2011 is observed as the International year of chemistry, the camp was named after the famous Indian scientist Kanadan. Dr. V.S. Jose inaugurated the camp. Sri K.C. Baby kutty presided over the function. Sri. K.S. Binuraj and G. Sunil felicitated on the occation.
First session of the camp was handled by Dr. Suresh Mathew, School of Chemical Science, M.G. University, Kottayam. His presentation was on Chemistry Year and future of chemistry. Next session was on Polymer chemistry which was led by V.G. Jyothi, Faculty member, Effective teacher. Sri. Babykkutty, headmaster, Labour India Public School handled a session on the topic Chemistry in day to day life. Remaining sessions were led by Sri. N.D.Sivan, Sri. K. Binu, Sri. Joseph Mathew and Sri. T. Gopalakrishnan.
On 26th May, the participants visited Lab of the School of Chemical Science, M.G. University. Faculties as well as research scholars of the department accompanied the students to introduce the lab equipments and experiments. The concluding session of the camp was inaugurated by Dr. Rajan Gurukkal, Vice-Chancellor, M.G. University. He gave an inspiring lecture to the students about science and scientific thinking. About 35 students took the benefit of the camp.
